BCI Package
V-Amp: The BCI Amplifier
Designed for the needs of BCI research for today and tomorrow: An attractively priced, high quality research amplifier that is very easy to operate.
The V-Amp records all the signals needed for BCI research, such as EEG, EOG, ECG, EMG and the full range of evoked potentials, including brain stem potentials.
Sensors for peripheral signals such as acceleration, GSR, blood flow and temperature interface easily with the V-Amp
auxiliary ports. As compact as a multimeter and powered from a USB port, the V-Amp offers outstanding features:
On-board TFT display, software-controlled AC/DC coupling, impedance measurement, bipolar and fully galvanically
isolated auxiliary channels and an 8+1 bit trigger port.
All Brain Products amplifiers are supplied with a software development kit (SDK), remote data access (RDA), and
MATLAB ® and Python clients. All Brain Products amplifiers are implemented in BCI2000 and are supported by BCI2000.
Other Brain Products‘ amplifier which can be used for BCI research:
• BrainAmp series (Standard, DC and ExG)
• BrainAmp MR series (MR, MR plus and ExG MR)
• QuickAmp
actiCAP*
The actiCAP combines active electrodes with a new type of shielding. An integrated noise reduction circuit delivers lower noise levels than any „normal“ active electrodes manage to achieve.
Thanks to active electrodes and active shielding, actiCAP is extremely tolerant of electromagnetic interference (power artifacts) and tolerant of movement artifacts. This makes it possible to move BCI paradigms into the real world. It is even possible to derive an extremely good EEG from subjects in a racing car or an airplane. Shielded cabins are no longer required.
The actiCAP delivers excellent data quality at a contact resistance as low as 25 kOhm. This means that it can be prepared very quickly and very gently. A significant proportion of BCI research attempts to help patients suffering from locked-in syndrome (LIS). LIS patients can hardly provide any feedback on any pain they may be suffering. It is therefore extremely important to limit electrode preparation to an absolute minimum with such patients. The actiCAP requires no abrasive substances whatsoever in the contact gel. In
addition, the preparation time is drastically reduced, e.g. down to 8 minutes for 64 channels.
The actiCAP can be connected to virtually any existing research EEG amplifier system. All our amplifiers and most of our competitors‘ amplifiers will work with the actiCAP. If you decide to switch from passive to active electrodes, simply retain your existing hardware, together with the acquisition and analysis software you are used to working with, and just add the actiCAP.

BrainVision Recorder for V-Amp
The BrainVision Recorder is a multifunctional recording software package designed to provide our amplifier customers with an extremely versatile and easy-to-use platform for setting up and making recordings.
A very convenient wizard menu structure guides the user through the entire hardware setup process and configuration of the hardware and software filters.
The impedance check is extremely simple. For each electrode, the impedance value is displayed at the corresponding topographic position using a selectable color scale.
The Recorder software is extremely stable and reliable in operation. The EEG data is stored together with all the parameters for impedance checking and acquisition.
The Recorder software allows you to play back your data to observe the performance of your optimized BCI classifiers in real-time without the need to record from a subject over and over.
The Remote Data Access module allows the incoming data to be distributed over the network to the BrainVision RecView software or any (in-house) software for real time BCI via the TCP/IP protocol.
The BrainVision Recorder video module allows video images of the experimental subject to be captured and synchronized with the incoming EEG data.
BrainVision Analyzer 2 for V-Amp
- The most powerful offline EEG analysis software for the BCI field
Derive spatial and temporal filters from your EEG with ICA, LORETA and other transforms to find the best classifiers ever. The Analyzer 2 easily interacts with MATLAB ® and other BCI software such as BCI2000.
The Analyzer includes all the necessary pre-processing functions, enhanced time/frequency analysis options, ICA, LORETA, MRI correction as well as a direct interface to MATLAB ®. New views open up unlimited output possibilities for publishing your results.
Programming interfaces in .NET languages can be used to expand functionality.
The full version of the Analyzer comes with a variety of data format readers. It recognizes files from different EEG manufacturers automatically and guarantees compatibility and exchangeability with research labs all over the world.
BrainVision RecView for V-Amp
- The software for fast real-time data analysis
BrainVision RecView is an advanced solution designed for real-time analysis of data received directly from the Recorder software over the Ethernet network via TCP-IP.
RecView provides a wide range of options for BCI and bio-/neurofeedback to the incoming data such as FFT analysis,
data filtering, mapping of surface potentials.
The new online LORETA facility offers the possibility of basing BCI on the activity in a brain area.
User-defined filters in C# extend the possibilities of RecView virtually infinitely.
New modules are developed in close interaction with our customers and are added frequently.
