EEG & TMS
Advanced Solutions for rTMS Applications
Push the boundaries of your TMS research!
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive technique that allows stimulation through the intact skull bone and can activate, inhibit or temporarily deactivate selected brain regions. TMS can be combined with EEG to investigate cortical reactivity and connectivity. The PowerMAG research stimulator is a solution specially designed for rTMS stimulation during EEG recording. Innovative hardware solutions implemented in the PowerMAG research allow the TMS stimulator to be phase synchronized with the EEG amplifiers and continuous EEGs to be recorded without any power line noise or recharging artifacts.
The PowerMAG research and the BrainAmp DC system can be used separately or combined in the following fields of application:
PowerMAG research TMS Stimulator
- Neurology, psychiatry, neuroscience, rehabilitation
- Clinical examinations (central and peripheral nervous system)
- Therapeutic applications (depression, tinnitus, stroke)
BrainAmp DC System
- BCI, Behavior, EEG, ERP
- EEG/MEG, EEG/TMS
- Neurofeedback, Sleep studies
PowerMAG research TMS Stimulator & BrainAmp DC System
- Evoked potentials analysis (TEPs) measured at the cortical level to asses cortical reactivity and connectivity
- Analysis of TMS stimulation effects on functional networks during cognitive tasks
- Interaction of TMS stimulation with oscillatory brain activity in order to understand the causal relationship between cortical rhythms and perceptual, cognitive or motor processes

Hardware solutions for combined EEG & TMS
PowerMAG research - two models of stimulator!
- PowerMAG research 30 - no compromises at high frequencies.
Maximum intensity (100% output) in the entire frequency range of up to 30 Hz. - PowerMAG research 100 for theta burst stimulation.
Bursts up to 100 Hz are applied with constant intensities by recharging between pulses
Features of both PowerMAG research models:
Operating time: Optimized stimulator design slows coil heating, allowing up to 3000 pulses without external cooling. Special conductor construction allows slim coil design and flexible cable.- Precision: Accurate control system allows precise dosage of the powerful pulses. Near-threshold stimulation with maximum reproducibility is guaranteed.
- Navigated TMS: Visualization of the electromagnetic field of the PowerMAG research coils on an individual anatomical dataset for a precise and reproducible application.
- Flexible control: Simple and quick operation from the front panel. Sophisticated protocols can be written using third party stimulation software such as Presentation and E-Prime and applied via an external interface.

BrainAmp DC & SyncBox
BrainAmp DC![]()
It is well known that recording neurophysiological data during TMS stimulation is a technically challenging task.
TMS stimulation induces a very strong electrical field that can saturate the recording amplifiers for a long duration. Furthermore, even if the amplifier does not reach saturation point, the TMS pulse induces an artifact in the EEG data that can last for hundreds of milliseconds.
The BrainAmp DC amplifier is a solution that is particularly suited to EEG and rTMS. Thanks to its software-selectable operating range, the BrainAmp DC can work in very high electromagnetic fields without saturation.
This outstanding feature makes it possible to record neurophysiological data without blocking the amplifier and therefore without any loss of physiological information. Moreover, the amplifier’s high sampling frequency (up to 5000 Hz) and the wide hardware bandwidth (from DC to 1000 Hz) together minimize ripple and therefore the duration of the TMS artifact.
Recently published scientific articles suggest that with BrainAmp DC, physiological activity is visible just 5 ms after TMS stimulation.
More information on the BrainAmp DC can be found on the BrainAmp DC Product Details Page.
SyncBox![]()
The SyncBox is a tool which synchronizes the clock of the BrainAmp DC system with the PowerMAG research‘s clock.
Phase synchronization between the EEG and the TMS equipment results in temporal stability of the EEG acquisition in relation to the switching of the pulses during TMS stimulation. This leads to a significant improvement in the quality of the recorded data and opens up new and unique opportunities to develop methods for TMS artifact removal.
More information on the SyncBox can be found on the SyncBox Product Details Page.

Fast’nEasy Cap for TMS
Brain Products caps that are designed for EEG and TMS recordings are fitted with Ag/AgCl pellet pin electrodes and have very thin
electrode holders (less than 4 mm). This solution allows the TMS coil to be placed very close to the scalp and elicits the evoked response with low magnitude stimulus.
In the standard cap version, every electrode can be freely rotated, thus always allowing the best cable geometry for any stimulation point, a crucial feature for successful EEG recordings during TMS stimulation. In fact, it has been proved that a cleaner signal can be recorded by orienting the cables away from the coil or coil cable.
A special version particularly suitable for working with a large number of channels or with an identical TMS stimulation point is also available on request.
More information on the Fast'nEasy Cap can be found on the Fast'nEasy Cap Product Details Page.
