How to update to Analyzer 2.0.3 or later
BrainVision Analyzer 2.0.3 and later require the latest dongle firmware and dongle driver. Analyzer 2 dongle installation instructions can be found here.
Analyzer 2 FAQs
- Are Analyzer 2.0.3 and 2.0.4 free of charge?
Yes, if you have an Analyzer 2 license (i.e. are using Analyzer 2.0.x already), version is free of charge. In case you are still working on Analyzer 1.0.x, you will need to purchase the upgrade to the latest Analyzer 2 version. Please contact your local distributor or us () for details. - What’s special about Analyzer 2.0.3 and 2.0.4, the latest Analyzer releases?
More than 70 change requests have been implemented in Analyzer 2.0.3; among others Analyzer 2.0.3 and later contains an updated version of the "Edit Channels" transformation and is compatible with Windows 8. Additionally a new dongle technology is supported. - What means a "new dongle technology is supported"?
The previous dongle technology was called (Aladdin) HASP HL, the new one, called Sentinel HASP, is more flexible and way safer. For example so far sub-licenses (e.g. for Analyzer 2 video) were delivered on a USB flash drive and had to be installed on local machines. The new dongle technology allows this to be simplified as additional licenses ("add-on licenses") can be added “to the dongle” directly. - What do I need to do to use Analyzer 2.0.3 or later?
(a) If you would like to keep your existing Analyzer 2.0.x version as it is (no add-on licenses required), please make sure the latest dongle driver and firmware is installed (see here for details), download and install the latest Analyzer 2 Release and you are all set.
(b) If you require any add-on license (i.e. the new "Add Channels" Transformation), please click here for further information. - Are previous (HASP HL) dongles still available?
Can I purchase new licenses with the previous technology?
Yes, HASP HL dongles are still available and even new (additional) licenses can be purchased with the previous technology. Simply make sure you place your order (with us or your local distributor) mentioning that you would like to stick with the old dongle technology.
Please note: Add-on Licenses (e.g. "Add Channels") need to be ordered separately and require updating to the new dongle technology. - Does my dongle have to be physically exchanged?
No. If you are using Analyzer 2.0.x, no physical exchange is needed. Please refer to (4.) on what to do to use Analyzer 2.0.3 or later. When still using Analyzer 1.0x, please refer to (1.). - Do I have to upgrade my dongle to the new technology?
No. Only, if you’d like to purchase the "Add Channels" Transformation upgrading to the new dongle technology is a must. Please refer to (4.). - Are there restrictions when I upgrade my dongle to the new technology?
Yes. Analyzer 1, Analyzer 2.0.0., 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 cannot and will not work with the Sentinel HAPS dongles. The files and ongoing analysis will certainly be kept, the work can be continued in the Analyzer 2.0.3 and later, but the outdated versions of Analyzer will not start anymore. - Can I upgrade my dongle to the new technology even if it is not a must (i.e. no add-on license is purchased)?
Yes, your dongle can be upgraded even without purchasing an add-on license (i.e. "Add Channels"). Details on how to do so can be found here.
Please note: Once a dongle is upgraded to the new (Sentinel HASP) technology, Analyzer 1.0x, Analyzer 2.0.0., 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 will not work with the Sentinel HAPS dongles anymore. - Can the dongle technology be downgraded after upgrading?
No. This is a one way street. Once a dongle is upgraded to the new technology, it is impossible to use any Analyzer version prior to 2.0.3 with this particular dongle (new technology). The files and ongoing analysis will certainly be kept, your work can be continued in Analyzer 2.0.3 or later, but the outdated versions of Analyzer will not start anymore.

Analyzer "add-on" license (formerly "sub-licenses")
If you have purchased an add-on license such as the "Add Channels" Transformation, which makes it possible to add and synchronize eye tracker data to the EEG data stream, you need to perform the following steps in order to add this license to your dongle.
- Make sure the dongle, that the add-on license should be added to is connected.
- Download, extract and start the "Dongle Finder".
- Go to "Menu", select "Scan for Dongle"
- From the list of all dongles recognized, select the one that the add-on license should be added to and click on the "Create C2V" button next to it
- Email the generated C2V file to us ().
- Within 24-48 hours you will receive an email containing a link to an .exe file. Make sure only the dongle, that the add-on license should be added to is connected. Then download and execute the file you received.
Please note: Once a dongle is upgraded to the new (Sentinel HASP) technology (e.g. by ordering the "Add Channels" add-on license), Analyzer 1.0x, Analyzer 2.0.0., 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 will not work with the Sentinel HAPS dongles anymore. Downgrading the dongle again to the old HASP HL technology will not be possible. The files and ongoing analysis will certainly be kept, the work can be continued in Analyzer 2.0.3 or later, but the outdated versions of Analyzer will not start anymore.

"Add Channels" Transformation for Analyzer 2.0.3 and later
With the release of BrainVision Analyzer 2.0.3 a new module is introduced called "Add Channels".
What is it for?
The "Add Channels" transformation makes it possible to import and synchronize co-registered data streams, e.g. eye tracker data, to the EEG.
How does it work?
The "Add Channels" transform is part of BrainVision Analyzer 2.0.3 and later and consequently does the synchronization offline. For a successful operation, the EEG file and the eye tracker file must share some triggers, which were sent in the same time to both systems. The synchronization is based on these common markers, the module re-samples, shifts and fits– in other words, synchronizes – the eye tracker data to the EEG points. In an ideal case the experiment control software (E-Prime®, Presentation®, etc.) solves the problem of triggering easily: it sends the same marker to both hardware devices (EEG and eye tracker) at the beginning and at the end of the experiment (or more frequently). In theory any stimulus control software can be used – like the software of the eye tracker hardware – as long as it is able to send the same trigger to both hardware devices and does not send the synchronization trigger only to one.
Which hardware is needed?
Since the synchronization is done offline and it is based on the triggers, every EEG amplifier, cap and electrode can be used for this purpose. The users have a total freedom to choose the EEG equipment. For the same reason you can choose among several compatible eye trackers.
Which eye trackers are compatible?
For the time being the following eye tracker systems are supported:
- Tobii ("TobiiStudio223" and "TobiiStudio301")
- ASL ("ASLEyeTrac6" and "ASLResults243")
- SMI ("SMIBeGaze300")
- SR Eye Link 1000 Plus
Which eye tracker events can be recorded?
Among the possible Eye Events (Blink, Saccade, Fixation, Area Of Interest enter / leave) those which can be recorded highly depend on the Eye Tracker vendor, which can support all or a subset of them. For example:
- SMIBeGaze300: Blinks, Saccades, Fixations, AOIs
- TobiiStudio301: Blinks, Saccades, Fixations
- ASLResults243: Fixations only
How to get "Add Channels"?
It is worth noting that this module needs a dedicated license and can be used only with the new Sentinel HASP dongle and Analyzer 2.0.3 or later. Please contact us () or your local distributor for further information about the features and price of this tool.
