Webinar: Introduction to LSL with Brain Products – Part 1

Why attend?

Join Dr. David Medine and Dr. Alex Kreilinger for two free webinars introducing Lab Streaming Layer (LSL) on June 28th and July 5, 2022.

Part 1: Introduction to the basic purpose, principles and practice of using the Lab Streaming Layer (LSL) on June 28, 2022 (9:00 AM or 4:00 PM CEST)

LSL is a real-time data streaming framework complete with tools for recording and loading data. LSL was created with experimental human psychological/physiological neuro-imaging applications (particularly EEG) in mind. LSL is also, by nature, an excellent tool for brain computer interfacing, as it generalizes the problem of getting synchronized, real-time data in and out of hardware and computers in an easy, ready-to-use-out-of-the-box fashion. One of the key features of LSL is its ability to synchronize multiple data and marker streams regardless of data type and sampling rate. Thus, of prime importance to using LSL effectively, is understanding how this synchronization is achieved and how to fix it when something goes wrong. This webinar will therefore focus on the following:

  • Basic uses of LSL
  • How to set up an LSL ecosystem
  • How to stream, receive, and record data using LSL
  • Understanding LSL’s built in data synchronization tools
  • Troubleshooting common problems

Part 2: Hardware triggers versus LSL markers on July 5, 2022 (9:00 AM or 4:00 PM CEST)

Stimulus presentation software solutions for Brain Products and LSL

This webinar will demonstrate a selection of established stimulus presentation software solutions, such as E-Prime, Presentation, PsychoPy, and PsychToolbox, and how they can be used to add events in your EEG data. Based on a basic visual stimulation paradigm, we will cover differences between these solutions and how easy it is to activate/deactivate hardware triggers and how to use LSL markers in parallel or as an alternative. Participants will receive instructions on how to use provided scripts for running such experiments and scripts for analyzing thereby recorded data. We will also discuss and demonstrate potential issues when using LSL and provide some tips for how to verify timing in general.
