What’s new in BrainVision Recorder 2?

BrainVision Recorder 2 is designed to help researchers collect cleaner EEG data with less setup time and fewer errors. Recorder 2 introduces a redesigned, user‑friendly interface that guides researchers through every step of best‑practice EEG acquisition. From amplifier configuration to impedance checks and real‑time signal inspection, the software ensures smooth, intuitive, and efficient workflows. During acquisition, you can monitor incoming EEG signals in real time and adjust views instantly with flexible visualization options.

Built for reliable, high-quality data

Recorder 2 is engineered on a robust Microsoft Windows® process architecture, ensuring stable performance and data integrity. The workflow enforces good EEG acquisition practices, helping users achieve consistent, high‑quality recordings.

Centralized workspace setup for maximum efficiency

The new Workspace Editor consolidates all essential setup parameters:

  • Amplifier configuration
  • Channel layout definition
  • Output and marker settings
  • Display preferences

Each workspace file documents the full configuration, supporting reproducibility and compliance. For users this means faster setup, fewer errors, and complete transparency of the EEG environment.

Flexible visualization options

Recorder 2 offers flexible visualization options including:

  • Customizable channel-wise display filters, colors, and scaling
  • Quick views for selected channel subsets
  • Multiple standard montages in dedicated windows for side-by side viewing

Future‑proof data formats & seamless integration

Recorder 2 introduces the BrainVision Recording Format (BVRF) — a JSON‑based structure that enhances readability and supports richer contextual data. It remains BIDS-compatible for easy conversion. BrainVision Analyzer 2 (v2.3.1) supports BVRF and readers are available for MATLAB, EEGLAB, and Python.

For real‑time applications, Recorder 2 offers RDA and LSL streaming with simple on/off control during monitoring or recording.

Other highlights

  • Save multiple impedance measurements in one dedicated file
  • Inspect the data via default montage views
  • Standard electrode positions: MNE Realistic 10-05, Easycap 10-05
  • Preconfigured sensor setup
  • Higher flexibility in marker setup
  • Display channels in different colors

Availability

BrainVision Recorder 2 is currently available for actiCHamp and actiCHamp Plus. Recorder 2 will be rolled out to support other Brain Products amplifiers, BrainAmp and LiveAmp, soon. BrainVision Recorder 1 can continue to be used for these amplifiers until then.
